Sometimes that means throwing my leg over the arm of the chair and resting my arm on daddy's arm.

I dreamt I was a lion!
I was born in mid-August, so I'm a Leo. I took being a Leo to heart yesterday -- in my sleep, I roared like a lion ("RAWR"), smiled, then rolled over and slept very comfortably on my other side. Mommy and daddy just looked at each other, not quite sure what to make of my sudden roar. I like to keep them on their toes!

When I can't make it to the pool, I make my own
I've learned how to use the faucets in the bathroom. I can turn the water on and off at whim. I also learned how to pull the stopper up to make a little pool for myself. Now I can splash in the water to my heart's content on demand! No need to wait for anyone else to figure out that's what I'm asking for. Hooray! I'm so self-reliant.
The best part is that I don't have to wait 30 minutes after eating to use this pool!! I take my snack with me and enjoy while kicking some water around!

I played in the water so much that my feet got wrinkly!
Not the best picture, but you get the idea.
I like to sit on the counter in mommy's bathroom and kick my feet in soapy water in the sink. Mommy adds soap for me, and I have an instant spa pedicure! Minus the toenail polish, that is. Mommy gives me a foot massage afterward. And, unlike at Burke Williams, she doesn't charge me for the service! What a good little servant she is.

My new book!
I can tell you ALL ABOUT things that are yummy and things that are yucky! Daddy chimes in, too! He says now that I've started eating a little "real" food, my poopies are YUCKY! Mommy said he's crazy - she said even my poopies smell like rose petals. I think mommy needs to see an ENT specialist. There's clearly something wrong with her nose.

Mommy is still laughing at these pictures
Mommy's co-workers got me a birthday present from what I'm told is a pretty terrific store. Mommy gave me the present to open myself. First, I inspected the bag - almost as if to indicate to mommy that I know where she gets things, and I expect her to show up with bags like this more often. Then I turned my attention to the card. Finally, I unwrapped a beautiful silver spoon! How thoughtful. Thanks, girls! I promptly got out my monogrammed stationery to write a thank you card. Emily Post would be so proud.
Mommy thought the series of pictures was hilarious. She said she can't wait until I'm a teenager so I can more fully appreciate how funny this all is. Daddy is NOT laughing. I think he just hears cash registers going bonkers in his head. Oh well!

My mommy told me I'm the cutest baby EVER
It's all about ME
I'm Caroline, and this blog is dedicated solely to my mommy and daddy's favorite subject, ME. Check back often for pictures, updates and messages from me. I try to add entries daily.
Why I have a blog
First of all, it's 2008. Get with the times. It's all the rage in the NICU.
In large part, I have a blog because my mommy doesn't like to send mass e-mails to update people on how I'm doing. She says that, although she wants to know about every drool, poop and hiccup, there might be others who don't care as much. So instead, she asked me to set up this blog to update people on what I'm up to and what I'm thinking so they can check the blog if they want to see what I'm doing (or if they just need a Caroline fix) -- and if they don't want to, there's no pressure.
Plus, it's fun to keep a running log of things I'm doing. And since my mommy won't stop taking pictures of me, it's easy to include a shot or two every day so you can watch me grow just like my mommy and daddy do!
You didn't think that all babies did was eat, sleep and poop, did you?! We lead very rich lives, thankyouverymuch.

My words
- 1. Mum-mum (that means mommy!)
- 2. Da-da
- 3. Yeah
- 4. Aye (that means hi)
My cool tricks
- 1. Wave hello and goodbye
- 2. Clap for myself (and for you, when you do what I want you to do!)
- 3. Crawl, pull myself to standing and cruise around - then sit when I'm done
- 4. Dance! And I smile while I do it!
- 5. Waiting for mommy or daddy to take off my diaper, then making a mad dash for the other room - I'm quick!
Things I Love
- Losing one sock and making mommy and daddy try to find it. Hide and seek is very entertaining for me!
- Books! I love it when people read to me. Sometimes I tell part of the story, too.
- Getting a big burp out! Mommy and daddy encourage me to give them "fraternity-style" burps, and get very excited when they say I burped a college-worthy belch.
- Trying to stick my feet in my dirty diaper when mommy and daddy are trying to change me -- what a fun game!
- Having my picture taken (and it's a good thing too, because everyone in this whole darned family aspires to be a Japanese tourist with all this clicky-clicky action!)
- Smiling
- The bottle. And not the 12-steps variety.
- Pooping or peeing while my diaper is off! So fun! Second best: pooping or peeing right after I've been changed. I hope mommy and daddy have shares of Pampers in my 529 account!
- Cheering for USC Football (Fight on, Trojans!), and Nebraska Football, as well -- and I have the attire to prove it!!
- Playing in my rainforest-themed gym (I love beating up the toucan -- the rattle noise he makes is fun!)
- Sticking my little feet out from the bottom of my swaddle
- Clean diapers
- Snuggle time (I just love being held -- and my parents love to hold me)
- My parents
My To-Do List (I'm a very busy girl!)
- Eat
- Sleep
- Poop (more presents for mommy!)
- Play
- Update my blog
Check out my mommy's travel blog
On a trip to Peru in 2004, my parents bought an alpaca finger puppet from a kid. That finger puppet became a great source of amusement during their travels, and they and their travel group decided that they simply had to launch a travel website detailing past trips and call it "The Traveling Alpaca."
The travel blog has lots of detail for those planning their vacations, so check it out before you plan a trip to see if anything they did strikes your fancy! There are links to hotels, locations, activities and more.
